The Power of Rest
The current COVID-19 pandemic has further compounded the weaknesses within our health systems. In a world where major epidemics are still active, the rate of disease ("dis-ease") in the human body is increasing at alarming rates, thus ultimately also affecting our mental health. This reality, including degenerative conditions such as hypertension, dementia, and depression, is forcing us to find creative ways to heal. But even though toxicity is ubiquitous in our environment today, we can still achieve restorative healing through resting the mind, body, and spirit.
After Oral Patrick became exposed to the toxins from the 9/11 attacks at the WTC, he developed chronic breathing difficulties and PTSD anxiety. He became depressed from the emotional and social disconnect that he experienced from separation from his loved ones. After experimenting with different medications only to gain unsatisfactory results, he underwent a significant recovery after lying in bed for a whole week on a primarily water-based diet while implementing meditation practices. This experience allowed his mind, body, and spirit to rest and heal. The body will always attempt to revert to a state of homeostasis when given a chance to.
No matter how healthy the body is, if the mind and spirit are out of balance, such as constantly living in a state of fear, the body will become ill. Resting the body involves a process of fasting and receiving the proper circadian-based sleep. Why? Because during this critical period the body's innate self-healing energies that would usually go toward digestion and other body functions, are now being prioritized for cleansing and restoring the body to health. As a result, research shows that blood sugar levels are normalized, and the body can produce growth hormones and stem cells to repair itself. When we live in fear and stress, the body systems are overworked, but peace and meditation can calm our minds and emotions. This ultimate bliss we all seek is found simply through living life authentically and fearlessly.
